Abstract
In the preceding chapters, we have learned that bacteria, phytoplankton, Zooplankton (especially foraminifers and certain crustaceans), and higher plants are the main contributors of organic matter in sediments. Natural associations of these various groups of organisms in various faciès provinces thus determine composition and type of organic matter to be deposited and incorporated in sediments.
