Abstract
The problems of the use of, and acceptance by, the population of green areas in Leipzig have been investigated. Three areas were selected as examples for year round continuous non-participative observations of visitors to the park and for parallel on-going household surveys in the surrounding area (standardised in writing), these were:
-
1.
A small green area (0,66 ha) in the new housing estate Grünau-North with a dominating lawn,
-
2.
The Arthur-Bretschneider-Park in Eutritzsch. A “classical” bourgeois park (7,3 ha) created at the turn of the century with a representative old stock of trees and a pond (0,74ha); it dates back to the years of rapid industrial expansion and is surrounded by detached family houses, old buildings and renovated old buildings,
-
3.
The “leisure time park” Rabet, a green area (3,9 ha) with a large extent of surface sealing. It is situated in the middle of an old building area with a number of dilapidated buildings and with new buildings on the eastern border.
