Zusammenfassung

Historisch gesehen hat das Gebiet der “vergleichenden fetalen Endokrinologie” mit den grundlegenden Arbeiten von Keller und Tandler (1), und Lillie (2) seinen Anfang genommen. Diese Autoren zeigten eindrucksvoll, daß fetale Rinderzwillinge einander dann beeinflussen, wenn zwischen den chorialen Blutgefäßen Anastomosen bestehen. Die weiblichen Feten eines verschiedengeschlechtlichen Paares werden in frühen Embryonalstadien regelmäßig in später unfruchtbare Zwicken (“freemartins”) umgewandelt, ein Effekt der ausbleibt, wenn keine placentaren Anastomosen vorliegen. Hierbei werden die Müllerschen Gänge erheblich reduziert und die Ovarien strukturell so weitgehend verändert, daß sie zuweilen histologisch wie Hoden erscheinen. Gleichzeitig gehen die primordialen Germinalzellen zugrunde. Ist ein Weibchen mit zwei männlichen Feten verbunden, sind die Virilisierungsprozesse noch stärker ausgeprägt (3).
