Observation of Coherent Local Surface Phonons on Clean GaAs Surfaces

Abstract

Coherent phonons localized to the top 4 atomic layers of the surface are generated by a single 35 fs laser pump pulse and detected by measuring the second-harmonic generated by a time-delayed 35 fs probe pulse.
