Doisy ist vor allem bekannt für seine Isolierung von Östron (Theelin) 1929 und von Östradiol. Für die Darstellung von Vitamin K 1939 erhielt er 1943 den Nobelpreis für Physiologie und Medizin, zusammen mit Henrik Dam aus Kopenhagen.
