Abstract
Different machines and associated electronic modules within the machines each require different coding. Universally, digital storage for any machine must be accomplished so type coding consumes as little memory space as possible, and also can be read and processed as quickly and directly as possible. This necessity is best achieved by optimum matching of type code to electronics used. The requirements imposed by the machine on a digital format of typefaces pertain, for the most part, to the code. The actual display of texts, the actual typesetting process, increases the requirements however.
