Abstract
Ductal carcinoma of the pancreas is a malignant tumour with one of the most dismal prognoses. A recent literature review quotes a 5-year survival rate of 5%–6% [5]. Long-term results have not improved despite the introduction of imaging techniques in early diagnosis. The results of adjuvant radio- and chemotherapy have been equally unsuccessful [16]. The only chance for cure remains radical surgical resection, however, few patients benefit from this.
