Abstract

Contraceptive techniques vary from country to country and change periodically within each one. In Japan, a barrier method, the condom, is virtually the only contraceptive method used, to the almost total exclusion of intrauterine devices (IUDs) and the pill. By contrast, the methods of choice in the People’s Republic of China are a stamp-like oral contraceptive and the IUD, with which, according to the latest available statistics, some 55 million Chinese women have been fitted.
