Abstract

The interdisciplinary diagnosis of frontobasal injuries should take into account potential lesions of the midfacial region, orbit, paranasal sinuses, and intracranial cavity (Samii and Draf 1978). In the treatment plan that emerges from this evaluation, specific surgical measures are defined, and their sequencing is coordinated among the otorhinolaryngologist, neurosurgeon, and maxillofacial surgeon (and ophthalmologist if required). Many studies have been published offering guidelines on rhinosurgical and neurosurgical treatment methods (Boenninghaus 1960, Dietz 1970, Escher 1960, 1967, 1969, Kley 1967, 1968, Naumann 1974, Probst 1971, Samii and Brihaye 1983, Seiferth 1954, Seiferth and Wustrow 1977, Bock 1983, Voss 1936). The status of oromaxillofacial surgery is summarized by Schuchardt (1966).
