Abstract
The adult mammalian neocortex is subdivided into a number of individual areas, distinguished from one another by unique cytoarchitectural patterns and specific connections. It is now well established that the formation of the cortex is achieved following successive steps of neurogenesis, migration of neurons to specific laminae and axon growth towards appropriate targets.
