Abstract
While precise written guidelines are a good way to relate experience, it is common to find an extreme diversity of opinions in the evaluation of radiographs and the planning of treatment. We considered it important, therefore, to supplement written discussions with a chapter illustrating the practical evaluation of radiographs and arthrograms, treatment selection, operative results, and the management of complications and special problems such as ischemic necrosis. Because of space limitations we had to select our material carefully; a great many other instructive examples could have been presented. It is hoped that the material chosen will suffice to make our theoretical guidelines clear and will help to train less experienced physicians in the accurate interpretation of radiographs.
