Abstract
One useful approach to analysis of the human major histocompatibility complex is to generate somatic cell variants with altered expression of HLA gene products. It is possible to generate not only a single HLA antigen loss, but also variants with simultaneous loss of two or three HLA antigens, by gamma ray irradiation. These HLA loss variants have enabled us to study the antigenic specificities detected by alloreactive responses in man.
