Zusammenfassung
Die Hornhaut ist ein durchsichtiges, gefäßloses Gewebe, das in Form und Gestalt einem kleinen Uhrglas ähnelt. Am Limbus ist die Hornhaut in der Sklera verankert. Am Übergang zur Sklera befindet sich eine zirkuläre Vertiefung, der Sulcus sclerae (Limbusfalz). Die Hornhaut erfüllt einerseits eine Schutzfunktion und andererseits dient sie als ein brechendes Medium, durch dessen „Fenster“ die Lichtstrahlen auf die Netzhaut gelangen. Ihre Brechkraft beträgt + 43dpt.
