Abstract
The hydrologic status of a paddy field reflects the liquid pressure of the moving soil water. Experiences in China show that the drainage condition of paddy field is one of the important factors affecting the growth and yield of rice. In order to drain the paddy field rationally so as to control the water permeability to a proper range, a perfect knowledge of the hydrologic status of the whole field is required. For, the movement of soil water is determined by Hydraulic gradient and hydraulic conductivity of the soil while the former factor is controlled by the water pressure within the whole soil.
