Die erste Mitteilung über Magenstumpf-Carcinome stammt von Donald C. Balfour aus dem Jahre 1922. Er hielt sie schon damals für eine Spätkomplikation und somit für einen wesentlichen, die Lebenserwartung beeinflussenden Faktor der Ulcuschirurgie.
