Abstract
In our Munich institute some calculations have recently been carried out (by Dürr, Yamamoto, Yamazaki and Heisenberg) concerning the connection between quantum electrodynamics (q.e.d.) and the general theory of elementary particles. The first part of my talk will be devoted to a general method for calculating coupling constants, applicable equally well to strong or electromagnetic interactions. The second part will deal with coupling in electrodynamics and will lead to a numerical value of the fine structure constant.
