Transgenic Trees

Part of the book series: Biotechnology in Agriculture and Forestry ((AGRICULTURE,volume 44))

Abstract

Poplar, belongs to the Salicaceae family. The genus Populus is mainly composed of dioecious species, which makes cross-pollination between separate trees compulsory for sexual reproduction. However, some poplar species, such as Populus lasiocarpa, are monoecious.
