Abstract
The endocrine glands are well-recognised sites of infections caused by granuloma-inducing organisms such as tuberculosis, leprosy and histoplasmosis. In immunocompromised patients, endocrine gland infections such as candidiasis of the thyroid and cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection of the adrenals may occur. Endocrine gland infection will result in acute inflammation with or without abscess formation in these endocrinal organs. Hormonal secretion from these inflamed glands may be either normal or abnormal (decreased or increased).
