Die Bedeutung bakterieller Faktoren im Rahmen der Ekzementstehung ist schon viele Jahrzehnte Gegenstand vielfacher Spekulationen. Joseph Zeisler aus Chicago betonte bereits während der 19. Jahrestagung der American Dermatological Association, von der in der Dezember-Ausgabe des Journal of Cutaneous Genito-Urinary Diseases (Band 13; S. 507-511) berichtet wurde, den hohen Stellenwert der antiparasitären Behandlung bei Ekzemen.
