Zusammenfassung
Die Nervensysteme von Vertebraten sind mit Neuronen ausgestattet, die bei Einwirkung noxischer, d.h. gewebeschädigender oder potentiell gewebeschädigender Reize auf den Organismus aktiviert werden. Die Aufnahme, Weiterleitung und Verarbeitung noxischer Information durch das periphere und zentrale Nervensystem wird als Nozizeption bezeichnet. Nozizeption führt beim wachen Menschen in der Regel zu Schmerzempfindungen und zu Reaktionen, welche die Einwirkung noxischer Reize zu vermeiden suchen [7–9, 11, 12, 14]. Beim wachen Tier wird ein Verhalten ausgelöst, welches das Vorhandensein einer ähnlichen oder identischen Sinnesempfindung bzw. ähnlicher oder identischer Reaktionsweisen vermuten läßt.
