Abstract

Treatment of patients with cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVM) has to be individually tailored based on expected benefits, risks, and complications, including spontaneous hemorrhage as well as the risks associated with treatment. The latter can be assessed according to the Spetzler-Martin grading system [5] which grades lesions based on size, location, and venous drainage on a scale from 1 to 5, with 5 carrying the highest risk.
