Abstract

• Surgical intervention without delay • Aggressive initial surgical source control including extensive intraoperative lavage, sufficient in the vast majority of cases (∼ 90%) • Continuous lavage, laparostomy and/or planned reexploration only if source control is not possible at initial operation • Supportive therapy with adequate antibiotics and intensive care
