GLORIA Long-Range Sidescan Sonar Mosaic of the North Norwegian Margin (67–75°N)

  • Chapter
European Margin Sediment Dynamics

Abstract

The eastern margin of the Norwegian-Greenland Sea has been affected by ice sheets since glaciers first grew to reach the sea about 2.5–3 Ma ago (Jansen and Sjoholm 1991; Thiede et al. 1998). The flux of sediments to this passive continental margin has varied considerably through time with the growth and decay of an ice sheet over Fennoscandinavia, Svalbard and, on some occasions, the epicontinental Barents Sea (Mangerud et al. 1998).
