Measurements of Flow Fields of Polymer Melts by Laser-Doppler Velocimetry

Deformation and Flow of Polymeric Materials

Abstract

Capillary rheometers and processing machines are “black boxes” regarding the knowledge of the flow fields of polymer melts within them. With the laser-Doppler velocimetry it is possible to quantitatively measure velocity fields. The flow behavior of various polymer melts is shown in this chapter for different positions within a slit die. Velocity distributions at the entrance and the exit of a slit capillary together with those in the slit are presented and discussed.
