Zusammenfassung
Äußere Drainagen spielen in der Intensivmedizin eine größere Rolle, sodass auf diese Art der Drainagen in diesem Kapitel besonders eingegangen werden soll. Die Funktion der äußeren Drainagen liegt zum einen in der Ableitung und somit Volumenentlastung von Flüssigkeit oder Gas, zum anderen ist gerade bei postoperativ angelegten Drainagen auch eine sog. „Wächterfunktion“ relevant. Hierunter versteht man, dass durch die Menge und das Aussehen des abgeleiteten Sekrets wichtige Hinweise gewonnen werden können. Beispielsweise kann so eine Nachblutung erkannt und quantifiziert werden. Des Weiteren kann das gewonnene Material aus der Drainage mikrobiologisch, laborchemisch und histopathologisch untersucht werden.
