Abstract
Efficient communication between health care providers is very important in order to ensure good quality care. In countries where care providers are distributed over different echelons (primary, secondary and tertiary care) and are working at different locations timely communication between these care providers is essential. With regard to the adequacy of the information exchange the following observation can be made: it is the sender who determines what information to communicate although the sender is not always aware of the information needs of the receiver.
