Knowledge-based Image Analysis on the Basis of Predicate Logic

Abstract

This article describes a component of a development system for the integrated knowledge-based image analysis (APL_VISION). This is based upon the image analysis system APLTREE (SBE89) which was extended by methods for knowledge representation and processing. APL_VISION contains components for semantic networks, production systems and predicate logic. The functions for predicate logic (APLPROLOG) are presented and the peculiarities of the knowledge-based image analysis are investigated with the aid of the predicate logic by means of a medical example. The application of this tool is in medical/biological research, e.g., in the analysis of CT or MR slices for the three-dimensional reconstruction of organs.
