Summary
The ultrasound biomicroscope is a high-frequency ultrasonic unit with a resolution up to 50 µm. With the help of this instrument it is possible to visualize the anterior segment of the eye with high precision. Intraocular lenses can be regarded as high reflective intraocular foreign bodies and therefore can be localized with respect to the surrounding intraocular tissues. We examined the positions of the lens optics and haptics in 38 patients. The haptics cannot always be exactly coordinated to the ciliary body. A routine examination of posterior-chamber lenses by ultrasound biomicroscopy is of minor clinical value.
