Abstract
The phenomenon of cyclical fluctuations in economic development has been a major concern of theorists and policy-makers for nearly two centuries. Particularly in the twentieth century, the experience of the Great Depression in the 1930s concentrated attention on the employment aspects of business cycles and stimulated the Keynesian revolution in economic theory.
