The lexicography of Portuguese

Abstract

This chapter deals with the lexicography of Portuguese. Despite the geographical spread of Portuguese, only Brazil and Portugal have a lexicographic tradition. Both these traditions are presented, and briefly contrasted, with a focus on lexical differences, the role of the language academies, the latest spelling reform, and an overview of recent monolingual paper and digital dictionaries.
