Zusammenfassung
Man geht von weltweit über 240 Millionen chronisch infizierten Patienten aus, mehr als 2 Milliarden haben einen serologischen Hinweis auf eine aktuelle oder stattgehabte Infektion mit dem Hepatitis-B-Virus (HBV). Der Nachweis einer HBV-Infektion erfolgt serologisch. Die wahrscheinlich erste Beschreibung einer durch das damals noch unbekannte Hepatitis-B-Virus ausgelösten parenteralen Infektion stammt von Lürmann aus dem Jahr 1885, als es unter Werftarbeitern in Bremen im Anschluss an eine Pockenschutzimpfung zu einer „Ikterusepidemie“ kam. Mittlerweile ist seit über 30 Jahren eine gut verträgliche und effektive Impfung verfügbar. Bis 2009 hatten 177 Länder die Hepatitis-B-Impfung für Kinder in ihre nationalen Impfprogramme aufgenommen.
