General Country Information
Montenegro is a sovereign state situated in Southeastern Europe, with a population of 622.099. It lies between 41°52′ and 43°32′ of the north latitude and between 18°26′ and 20°21′ of the eastern longitude. It has a coast on the Adriatic Sea. Montenegro covers an area of 13,812 km2 in the continental part and about 8.500 km2in the coastal part. It is bordered by Croatia in the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina in the northwest, Serbia in the northeast, and Kosovo and Albania in the southeast. The Adriatic coast length is 293 km. Montenegrin coast is separated from the continental part by the steep mountain slopes. Central part is typically karstic with developed valleys, karstic plateau, and high mountains. Northeastward, Montenegro is characterized by high mountains with developed mountain areas.
