Abstract
Put yourself far into the future (or at least in the future of science fiction). You have been sent on a fact-finding mission to another planet in a far-off galaxy, one that is known to have an advanced civilization. Being interested in economics, you want to know if the creatures on this planet use some form of money. How would you know? What would you look for? Little slips of paper that they carry around with them? Plastic rectangles with magnetic strips? What is money, anyway?
