Abstract

Located in the Wuling Mountains in northwestern Hunan Province, the Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area consists of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the nature reserves of Souxiyu and Tianzishan, and the Yangjiajie Scenic Area. The site is distinguished by more than 3,000 narrow sandstone pillars and peaks. The most spectacular features are the pillar-like peaks of quartzitic sandstones in the valley.
