Abstract

Located adjacent to virgin forest stretching for thousands of miles in Shennongjia and facing the boundless expanse of the blue water of the Danjiangkou Reservoir, the Ancient Building Complex in the Wudang Mountains is located in Shiyan City of Hubei Province. Being one of the famous centers of Taoism, the Wudang Mountains encompass the largest number of ancient building complexes of palaces and temples of Taoism throughout China. The existing ancient buildings within the site were mostly built during the Ming Dynasty. The ancient building complex represents the highest standards of Chinese art and architecture in the early period of the Ming Dynasty.
