Abstract

Planning & Scheduling is the main project build-up process. It comprises a number of ISO/DIS 21500:2011 sub-processes. Firstly the project goals and objectives are to be thoroughly evaluated, and Toyota 5W1H (renamed 6 W in book) and SMART-criteria are to be met. Then Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and Project Structure Plan (PSP) are to be elaborated. Several conceptual models are considered: Rubicon model, Waterfall model, V-model, agile models and activity/role model. Milestones are to be defined and time schedule elaborated. Finally the cost/benefit evaluation shall justify the efforts.

Techniques of goal definition, product and project structuring, planning and cost estimations techniques are introduced in the chapter. Project business case techniques along the most frequently used capital budgeting techniques are presented.

Multiple examples demonstrate the application of presented methods and techniques.

Examples of Templates, Checklists and Bibliography close the Chapter.

Quick look at the beginning of the Chapter gives cornerstone assessment of the process, presented here.
