Abstract

The term “abdominal tumor” is used for all disorders that lead to a visible and/or palpable enlargement of the abdomen. Although retro- and intra-abdominal neoplastic tumors are in the foreground of clinical interest, malformations, inflammations, traumatic injuries, or parasitoses presenting as solid or cystic mass as well as organomegalies and ascites are quoted here because they may feign a benign or malignant tumor (differential diagnostic significance) and need specific treatment.

Although abdominal tumor is a characteristic presenting sign in childhood, it may manifest as well as surgical abdomen or with life-threatening symptoms and signs of the respiratory system due to the urgently needed work-ups, space-occupying effect, or inherent specific complications.
