Abstract

In the Dolomites, the mineral substrate is composed of different types of dolomites, limestones, and silicate rocks. The substrate is stable, or else it has variations that are measurable over long periods of time. On the surface, soil forms which is molded by the action of the climate and the vegetation. These modifications regard primarily the chemical composition (organic substance, acidity, nutrients), the circulation of soil water, and its availability for plants. These environmental factors are evaluated by means of bioindication.
