Zusammenfassung

Die Leistenhernie des Kindes entwickelt sich in der Mehrzahl aus einem offen gebliebenen Processus vaginalis peritonei und entspricht damit dem Befund einer sog. „indirekten Leistenhernie“. Sie wird in der Regel bereits im Säuglingsalter diagnostiziert und hat eine höhere Inzidenz bei Frühgeburtlichkeit. Knaben und die rechte Seite sind häufiger betroffen. Die Leistenhernie stellt eine klare Indikation zur operativen Korrektur dar und zwar kurzfristig nach Diagnosestellung. Die Gefahr der Inkarzeration besteht vor allem im ersten Lebensjahr. Bei weiblichen Säuglingen können die Adnexe in den Bruch gleiten, ein Befund den man als „Ovarialhernie“ bezeichnet. Die Technik der operativen Korrektur unterscheidet sich grundlegend von den Techniken, die bei Erwachsenen Anwendung finden.
