Zusammenfassung
In den vorangegangenen Kapiteln haben wir Mechanismen besprochen, die zumindest vom gedanklichen Prinzip her zu geordneten Bewegungen, Strömungen und Zirkulationen geführt haben. Neben diesen Vorgängen spielen aber stochastische, diffusionsartige Prozesse eine große Rolle für die atmosphärische Dynamik und für den Transport atmosphärischer Beimengungen. Dabei ist zwischen molekularen, gaskinetischen Mechanismen, wie molekularer Viskosität oder molekularer Diffusion, einerseits und Prozessen, die mit der turbulenten Bewegung der Luft zusammenhängen, andererseits zu unterscheiden. Darüber hinaus wirft das Auftreten von Turbulenz die Frage nach den prinzipiellen Grenzen der deterministischen Betrachtungsweise auf.
