Liver Intervention: Angiography

Abdominal Imaging

Abstract

Utilizing a multimodality approach with minimally invasive interventional techniques, a great variety of problems within the liver can be addressed including both diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Transjugular liver biopsy (TJLB) is a diagnostic interventional option when transabdominal percutaneous biopsy may not be safely performed or when measurements of portal venous system pressure are indicated. If portal hypertension is found, and with an appropriate clinical indication, a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) may be a therapeutic option. Lastly, in certain patient populations, either primary or secondary liver malignancy may be treated with selective transarterial catheter directed chemoembolization or radioembolization.
