Zusammenfassung

Tod durch Suizid gehört zu den häufigsten Todesursachen und ist in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland häufiger als Tod durch Verkehrsunfälle. Die Häufigkeit von Suizidversuchen ist noch wesentlich höher. Auch begehen Patienten nach einem Suizidversuch oft einen erneuten Suizidversuch oder Suizid. Das höchste Suizidrisiko tragen alte Männer, das höchste Suizidversuchsrisiko junge Frauen. Die Mehrzahl der suizidalen Handlungen erfolgt vor dem Hintergrund einer psychiatrischen Erkrankung, Fast immer haben die Patienten eine psychiatrische Diagnose, am häufigsten eine Depression. Die Therapie umfasst Krisenintervention, Psychotherapie und Pharmakotherapie. Gemeindebasierte Mehrebeneninterventionen sind ein kosteneffektiver Ansatz zur Prävention von suizidalen Handlungen.
