Zusammenfassung
Unter den Muskeltumoren sind die Tumoren der Muskelzellen selbst von Tumoren des interstitiellen Binde-, Gefäß-, Fett- und Nervengewebes (ausführliche Darstellung siehe [Cardesa, 2009; Weiss, 2008] sowie von den hier bemerkenswerterweise extrem seltenen Metastasen zu unterscheiden. Obwohl die Skelettmuskulatur etwa 45 % des Körpergewichtes ausmacht, ist auch die Zahl der vom quergestreiften Muskelgewebe selbst ausgehenden Tumoren unverhältnismäßig gering. Unter den Tumoren der quergestreiften Skelettmuskelfasern selbst sind die seltenen benignen Rhabdomyome von den malignen Rhabdomyosarkomen unterscheiden. Ob auch die Granularzelltumoren ("Granularzellmyoblastome") hierher gehören, ist umstritten; sie wurden zeitweise als Abkömmlinge von Schwann-Zellen angesehen. Gleiches gilt für die "malignen Granularzelltumoren", die auch als alveoläre Weichteilsarkome bezeichnet werden, doch sind sie nach molekulargenetischen Untersuchungen myogenen Ursprungs.
