Abstract

Ewing's sarcoma family of tumors (ESFT) comprises a group of neoplasms that can arise in bone and/or soft tissue, and share similar histologic and molecular features. These tumors include Ewing's sarcoma (ES), extraosseous ES, peripheral primitive neuroec-todermal tumor (PPNET), and Askin tumor (chest wall tumor). ES is the more undifferentiated form of the tumor, whereas PPNET is more differentiated. ESFTs are thought to derive from neural crest cells, although the exact cell of origin remains unknown.
