Der österreichische Schriftsteller Thomas Bernhard wurde 1943 in ein Heim für „schwer erziehbare Kinder“ in Thüringen aufgenommen, worauf er mit Einnässen nachts und auch tagsüber reagierte. In seinem Buch Ein Kind beschrieb er

... einem anderen Kind passierte jede Nacht etwas viel Schlimmeres als mir: er beschmutzte sein Bett mit Kot. Ich erinnere mich an dieses Schreckensbild haargenau: im Waschraum unten, wo nur noch die Keller waren, wurde... ihm... das kotbeschmutzte Leinentuch um den Kopf geschlagen, während man mir, neben ihm, die wundgewetzten Oberschenkel an den Hoden mit einem weißen Pulver bearbeitete.
