Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund Die Elektrostatik gilt als die am längsten bekannte Erscheinungsform von Elektrizität und hat es doch erst am Ende des 20. Jahrhunderts zu wirklicher technischer Bedeutung in Form von mikromechatronischen Systemen (MEMS – Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) gebracht. Aufgrund der physikalisch bedingten mikroskaligen Krafterzeugung können die vielfältigen Einsatzmöglichkeiten als Sensor und Aktuator auch nur im mikroskaligen Bereich ausgespielt werden. Besonders attraktiv sind elektrostatische Wandler durch ihren relativ einfachen konstruktiven Aufbau. Es sind lediglich leitfähige Materialien als Elektroden erforderlich. So können mit etwas Bewegungsraum und Luft als Dielektrikum auf kleinstem Bauraum hochpräzise und hochdynamische mechatronische Systeme zur Bewegung kleiner und kleinster Massen geschaffen werden. Interessanterweise sind viele der für die technische Umsetzung relevanten Phänomene erst in der letzten Dekade des vergangenen Jahrhunderts wissenschaftlich detailliert untersucht worden, sodass diese Klasse von mechatronischen Systemen durchaus auch in Zukunft noch für viele wissenschaftliche Überraschungen gut ist.
