Funktionen der Milz. Der histologische Aufbau der Milz gestattet den Kontakt des zirkulierenden Blutes mit einer großen Anzahl von Zellen des lymphatischen und des Monozyten Makrophagen-Systems. Die Hauptfunktionen sind die Klärung des Blutes von zirkulierenden Mikroorganismen, die Filterung von Blutzellen und immunologische Reaktionen auf intravenös zugeführte Antigene. Während der Fetalzeit findet in der Milz auch Blutbildung statt.
