conserv. phyt. zool. (Generic term for â–ºstatus of endangerment of faunistic and floristic species at high risk of global extinction, classified by the IUCN in different threatened categories of the â–ºRed List according to their extinction risk: 1. Extinct [EX], 2. Extinct in the Wild [EW], 3. Critically endangered [CR], 4. Endangered [EN], 5. Vulnerable [VU], 6. Near Threatened [NT], 7. Least Concern [LC], Data Deficient [DD], Not Evaluated [NE]; cf. IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria, Version 3.1, 2001. In U.S., the term is defined as any species which is likely to become an endangered species within the forseeable future throughout all or a significant portion of its range; in U.K., a new list of 1,149 threatened UK species was published in 2007 that will be the focus of future government conservation action under the Biodiversity Action Plan [BAP].
