Abstract
Toxoplasmosis is caused by Toxoplasma gondii, an obligate intracellular protozoan which parasites the majority of warm-blooded animals worldwide. Human systemic infection is usually minor and self-limited, but may have serious consequences especially in immunocompromised individuals and in fetuses after vertical transmission. Toxoplasmosis is also the leading cause of posterior uveitis in many countries.
