this test employs a rotating grinding wheel or plate, charged with diamond powder, against which gemstones are held. The test sample is abraded for a given number of revolutions. The loss of weight of the gemstone is a measure of the abrasion resistance of the material. Also called abrasion test. Attrition milling.
